MEET OUR SEMINARIAN

MR. MATTHEW MASON

Matthew is in his second year of Theology at Saint John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts. He is originally from Boscawen and is a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Concord. Matt knew at a very early age that the priesthood may be in his future. As a little boy attending mass with his family, older parishioners would casually comment that he would make a good priest someday. The seed of his vocation was planted then and there. Matt graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Thomas More College in Merrimack and studied for a time in Rome during his sophomore year. He is a loyal Red Sox fan, a classic movies buff, and plays a mean game of poker with his friends. Why did he choose to follow a priestly vocation? "Above all, because I felt called by God to the priesthood," he says. "That call is not always something that is easy to explain.  I can certainly point to my family and many excellent priests who inspired me to explore this call but it remains somewhat mysterious and deeply personal."

Matthew can be reached during the summer of 2008 at:

PRAYER TO KNOW ONE'S VOCATION

My Lord and my God, you are Love itself, the source of all love and goodness. Out of love you created me to know you, to love you, and to serve you in a unique way, as no one else can. I believe that you have a plan for my life, that you have a mission in your Kingdom reserved for me alone. Your plan and your mission are far better than any other I might choose: they will glorify you, fulfill the desires of my heart, and bring salvation to those souls who are depending on my generous response.

Lord grant me the light of grace I need to see the next step in Your plan; grant me the generosity necessary to follow your call; and grant me the courage required to take up my cross and to follow you.

Show me your will, O gentle and eternal God, and help me to say with Mary, “I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” Let me say with Jesus, “Let not my will be done, but yours.” Amen.
